2005 World Cyber Games in Singapore
Wednesday night I thought I’d check out the opening of the 2005 World Cyber Games here in Singapore. There was an opening speech but a few things were still being set up for the real start on Thursday when the games begin! Teams from 70 countries will be competing in games like Counterstrike, Warcraft III, Need for Speed Underground 2, and Fifa.

The set up is pretty impressive, and they must have around 400 machines set up along with two giant screens in the main hall to watch special events.

I’m not really a big gamer any more, partly because of lack of time but also because I’ve found other things more fullfilling(like film). It might be time for me to give it a try again and maybe so I should probably buy one of the new consoles since my Mac doesnt really play games that well. The big thing that has happend in gameworld is of course network playing, which didnt really work back in the day. I remember spending 3 hours trying to get Populous to connect to a friends computer over a modem. Of course graphics have gotten quite a bit better, I dont think they really add to the playability and they still don’t look photoreal.
So this afternoon I’ll head back over to Suntec City (its a mall) and check it out.
