What Must Be Done in Iraq

It is unfortunate the US invaded Iraq.
And that the US invaded Iraq using intelligence artfully sifted and filtered to show a threat to the US.
And did not prepare for operations after the war and seemingly did not care.
It is also unfortunate that the people that made all these mistakes are still in power.

But now Iraq has descended into the chaos of civil war, three factions wrestling for power using firsts of AK-47s. The US largely stands by as impotent referee, not willing or able to intervene in the fighting. And that fighting has gotten brutal, while into round 450 no clear winner has come forward.

The US must stand up and win this fight, to take complete control of Baghdad. It must be put under martial law. The vacuum of power must be filled and since we started this fight, we need to end it. Order must be present and the only way is with a massive showing of force.

This is not what the American people wanted.
This will not be easy.
It will not be pretty.

Here’s the plan:

Currently Iraq has 150,000 servicemen spread throughout Iraq.

This number must go up tp 200,000 with over half of the 50,000 additional troops in Baghdad. Why so many troops in Baghdad? Few people seem to realize that Baghdad is a city of over 7 million people, and New York- with its 8 million people - has a standing police force of 40,000. Currently Baghdad has 35,000 troops - just enough for peace time. To take control of the city is like Bloomberg calling in the national guard. Of course the good men and women of our guard are already over there. The US must either make a plea to the UN or NATO to bring in these forces or they must relocate them from other US bases.

We have inherited the responsibility of participating in the destinies of 30 million Iraqi people. We were the prime mover in the conflict and the onus is on us to stop what we started.
